TRENDY AND ECO-FRIENDLY KITCHEN ORGANIZATION IDEAS, ACCORDING TO EXPERTS

Minimalism and Sustainability in the Kitchen gained a lot of importance in the last two years. Since so much of our household waste came from food, it seemed a good place to start. To begin, you need to create a simple and minimalistic space that would help you to create less waste by consuming less.

Before you go low waste in your kitchen, think about your grandparent’s habits around buying and storing food. Specifically find ways to refuse what you don’t need and reduce what you use and reuse what you had for multiple purposes.

A mason jar, for example, can serve a drinking glass or a aluminium foil or plastic wrap are practical, but not particularly environmentally friendly.

Although there are alternative products to organize the kitchen, that can be used several times and are even better and just as practical.

Here are a few eco-friendly kitchen ideas to help organize your kitchen more zero waste.

SEW HOMEMADE INDIVIDUAL COVERS

To sew individual fabric container covers, you can recycle pieces from a T-shirt, an old curtain, or any other fabric scraps. You can make them in different sizes- small ones make great mason jar covers, while large ones can be used to cover bowls.

MATERIALS:

  • A piece of fabric about ten centimeters longer and wider than the item to be covered and a piece of coated fabric of the same size
  • A piece of laundry elastic
  • Sewing machine
  • Bowl or jar
  • safety pin
  • Marking pencil
  • 100% cotton fabric

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Wash, dry and iron the fabric. Lay the fabric on a flat table.
  2. Place the jar for which you want to make cover for and lay it upside down on the the uncoated fabric and trace the outline with the pencil about one centimeter away from the jar. Then draw a second, larger shape about two to three inches apart around the first line.
  3. Cut out the circle.
  4. With about half a centimeter from the edge, sew the fabric together with a sewing machine until a small opening of a few centimeters.
  5. Turn the fabric “right side out” through the opening.
  6. Sew the fabric together all around along the drawn inner circle.
  7. By using a safety pin, place a linen elastic through the tunnel between the two fabric. Pull the ends together and sew or knot so that the edge of the hood curls.

Self-made hair conditioners for a healthy shine

General hair conditioners are connected with creamy and sweet-smelling hair care products that nurture the scalp and hair in a simple and quick way after shampooing them, smoothing them and helping them to shine more.

Conventional conditioners, however, usually contain synthetic ingredients such as micro plastic and silicones. They rarely support a healing or even renewal of hair and scalp.

Yet there are a number of ways to care for hair without chemical additives using simple, natural ingredients. In this Blog post we will introduce you to simple, effective, homemade DIY- conditioners, which are healthier for the hair and less harmful to the environment.

Flaxseeds

You probably know flaxseed as a healthy ingredient in baked goods and muesli or as a vegetable egg substitute. In addition to its use in cooking, the flaxseed gel can also be used for hair care. Flaxseed gel contains numerous nutrients that also keep hair healthy and strong – including magnesium, selenium, copper and omega-3 fatty acids. Using a leave-in conditioner with flaxseed gel, the active ingredients can have a particularly intensive effect on the hair.

Following ingredients are needed:

-35-40 g flaxseed (-> International shipping)

-500 ml tap or distilled water 1-2 tbsp.

-hair-conditioning vegetable oil optional, essential oil for even more care – for example, lavender, peppermint or rosemary

-optional a few drops of vitamin E oil to protect the ingredients from oxidation

Apple cider vinegar

For those who use hair care alternatives such as hair soap, an acid rinse is an ideal addition to smooth the outer layer of the hair, which has been roughened by the alkaline effect of the soap. It removes soap and lime residues from the hair, providing shine and a stronger (natural) hair color, making conventional conditioners unnecessary.

Following ingredients are needed:

-2 tsp. apple cider vinegar (contains especially many vitamins and minerals that additionally nourish the hair), raspberry vinegar or wine vinegar

-500 ml tap or distilled water (as needed)

-optional 5 drops of essential oil for even more care – for example lavender, peppermint, rosemary.

Selfmade Face Scrub made Out of coffee grounds

There is always coffee grounds left over from your morning coffee – instead of throwing them away, you can use them to make a refreshing and moisturizing facial scrub! Unlike many commercial scrubs, the coffee scrub does not contain harmful microplastics and consists only of natural ingredients.

Here are inexpensive facial & body scrub recipes made with coffee grounds – pure or with a few other ingredients.

Coffee scrub is as invigorating as it is effective, but also has a stimulating effect on the skin.

Using organic homemade coffee scrub will help firm your skin, remove dead skin cells, and encourage healthy circulation all at once. The circulation-promoting effect of the caffeine helps to better supply the skin with nutrients. As a result, the skin looks fresher and firmer.

For Clear Skin: Brown Sugar, Honey and Coffee grounds

Mix a portion of coffee grounds with brown sugar, honey and a little water in your hand and spread the final paste on your face in circular motions. Then wash off the paste with warm water and care for the face as usual.

Additionally, brown sugar as a scrub will help for skin to remove dead skin cells even more. Honey is naturally antibacterial and is great for acne treatment, moisturizing the skin and boosting the skin complexion.

Ingredients:

For Smooth Skin: Plant based oil (coconut oil), Brown sugar and Coffee grounds

Plant based oil, coconut oil is antibacterial. It is used in many beauty products and helps to clean the face. High-quality plant oils help to provide additional care, because they contain valuable components such as unsaturated fatty acids, vitamins and phenols, which also help to keep the skin healthy and firm from the outside.

Ingredients:

Time required: 20 minutes.

Process: Add each ingredient into a bowl and mix throughly into a homogenous mixture. If you’re using grounded coffee let it sit for 2-3 minutes. Before applying, clean your face with warm water, gently massage the coffee into your face. Spread the paste with circular movements into your skin. It is not necessary to rub strongly, because the coffee grounds effectively remove dead skin particles even without pressure. Leave the scrub on for about ten minutes.

The coffee grounds scrub is easy to rinse off with warm water. To allow the nourishing oil to continue to work, do not rub the skin dry, just pat it dry.

Advice: Peelings are best used twice a week, but not more often so that the skin is not too stressed. Listen and start du understand your own skin.
